Terms of use
These terms explain what PaceTag is, what you agree to when you use it and what we promise in return. They are written to match the app as it works today. Nothing in them limits your rights under mandatory consumer law.
Who we are
- Marcus Jonathan Ong, trading as PaceTag, a Swedish sole trader (enskild firma)

What PaceTag is
PaceTag keeps a running group together. A host starts a private group for a race or a training run and sets the course. Runners ask to join with a code, and the host approves them. Each runner who shares their location sees how far they are from the host along the course, and can send a private link so someone can follow their progress.
PaceTag is an invite-only pilot in development. Features may change, and the service may sometimes be unavailable while we build it. We will not remove your ability to delete your account and data.
Not an emergency or safety service
Do not rely on PaceTag to find someone, keep someone safe or call for help. In an emergency, call 112. At an event, use the organizer's official channels.
Positions appear only when phones can send them. They can be late, missing or wrong: GPS, the network, a flat battery or a phone's settings can stop them. PaceTag shows when a reading is old, and gaps are rounded estimates, not measurements.
Run within your limits
- PaceTag never tells you to push, speed up, chase or race. Keeping up with the group is never worth hurting yourself.
- Stopping because of illness, injury, weather or the organizer's instructions is always the right call.
- Watch the road, not the screen. Follow traffic rules, the event's rules and the instructions of officials.
- PaceTag gives no medical advice. A heart rate shown in PaceTag comes from your watch and is not a medical reading.
Who can use it
You must be 18 or over. We ask you to confirm this once when you sign up. One account per person, with true information. You are responsible for what happens in your account. During the pilot, PaceTag is open only to people we invite.
Groups and sharing your location
- The host approves everyone who joins, and the host or a co-lead can remove a member. A group ends within 24 hours, or earlier if the host ends it.
- You decide whether to share your location, per group. It is off when you join, and you can turn it off at any time.
- Join only groups of people you know or have chosen to run with, and approve only people you are happy to share your progress with. A host is responsible for whom they let in.
- The host decides whether spectator links may show the course, and whether they may show if a runner is with, behind or ahead of the pack. Both are off unless the host turns them on.
Spectator links
- You choose whether to create a link and whom to send it to. Anyone who has the link can follow your progress in a browser, without an account, until the link ends, you revoke it or the group ends.
- A link shows only your own progress, never the other runners.
- If someone sends you a link, use it only to follow them, and do not pass it on unless they agree.
- Cheers you send through a link are for encouragement: short, plain text, no web addresses, at most one a minute. Nothing hurtful, nothing that tells a runner to push harder. The runner can turn cheers off.
Courses
- Upload, draw or record only routes you have the right to use. An official event course may be used only with the organizer's written permission. PaceTag labels an imported route as imported by the host, never as official, and never implies a partnership with an event or organizer.
- Group members can see where a course starts and finishes. Move the start and finish away from your home before you save a course.
- A path suggested by the directions service when you draw a course may be wrong, closed or not open to the public. Check that a route is safe and allowed before you run it.
Apple Watch and Apple Health
- The watch app can run as a companion to your own workout app, or as a PaceTag workout that you choose and start yourself. PaceTag never starts a workout by itself. Starting a PaceTag workout ends any other app's workout on the watch; the watch tells you before it does.
- In a PaceTag workout, the workout is saved to Apple Health. Heart rate is read only if you turn it on and allow it in Apple Health. Health data stays on your devices and never reaches PaceTag's servers (see the privacy notice).
Respect other people
Do not use PaceTag to:
- follow, monitor or track anyone who has not agreed to it, or harass anyone;
- pretend to be someone else, or use offensive names for yourself, a group or a course;
- share someone else's link, location or course beyond what they agreed to;
- flood join requests, guess join codes or links, collect data automatically, or disrupt or get around how PaceTag works.
We may remove a member, group, course or link, or close an account, that breaks these terms or puts someone at risk. We tell you why, unless the law prevents us or telling you would put someone at risk.
Your content
Your courses, names and group details stay yours. You allow us to store them and show them to the people you choose (your group, and spectators where the host allows it), only to run PaceTag. That permission ends when you delete them or your account.
Price: free during the pilot
- PaceTag is free during the pilot. Nothing in it can be bought, and we will never charge you without your choice.
- We may offer paid plans later. If we do, we will update these terms and tell you in the app at least 30 days before paid plans start. Anything that is free for you then will not start costing money unless you choose to buy.
- Paid plans would be bought through Apple's App Store or Google Play, under their terms and payment systems. The price, the period and whether it renews by itself would be shown before you buy, and you would manage or cancel a subscription in your store account. Refunds would follow the store's rules and your rights under consumer law.
- Licences for event organizers, if we offer them, will have their own agreement.
Other companies’ services
Apple's and Google's terms apply to their stores, devices and services, including Apple Health and Apple Watch. Maps are provided by Mapbox, with map data © Mapbox and © OpenStreetMap contributors, under their terms.
Our responsibility
We run PaceTag with care and fix mistakes we make. We are responsible for loss we cause through negligence. We are not responsible for positions that are late, missing or wrong because of GPS, networks or devices, for decisions you make based on what PaceTag shows, for an event itself, for routes suggested by the directions service, or for outages at other companies that we could not prevent. We are not liable for indirect loss unless we caused it through gross negligence or on purpose. Nothing here limits our responsibility for personal injury we cause through negligence, or your rights under mandatory consumer law.
Ending, and changes to these terms
- You can stop using PaceTag at any time and delete your account in the app.
- We may end the pilot or the service. We tell you in the app at least 30 days before, unless we must stop sooner for safety or legal reasons. You can ask for a copy of your data before it ends.
- We tell you in the app at least 30 days before these terms change in a way that matters to you, unless the law or safety requires a change sooner. If you do not accept the new terms, you can stop using PaceTag and delete your account.
Complaints, law and courts
Write to privacy@pacetag.app first; we answer within two weeks. If we cannot agree, you can take a consumer dispute to the National Board for Consumer Disputes (Allmänna reklamationsnämnden, arn.se). [Whether PaceTag commits to follow ARN's recommendations: to decide]
Swedish law applies, and disputes go to Swedish courts. If you live in another country, you keep the protection of its mandatory consumer law.
